A segment is a saved audience. Instead of working out who should get an email every time, you build the group once and pick it from a list whenever you send.
Build a segment
- Open Comms, then select Segments.
- Enter a Name. Make it obvious, like "Gold and Silver, active". "Segment 3" will not help you next month.
- Under Who is this for?, choose Member contacts, Community subscribers or Everyone.
- Narrow it down with any of these. Select as many as you need:
- Member status
- Business tags
- Membership tier
- People tags
- Watch Current audience to see how many contacts match before you save.
- Select Create segment. To change one later, edit it and select Save changes.
How the filters combine
- Within one filter, choices work as "or". Picking Active and At-risk matches either.
- Across filters, choices narrow the group. A status plus a tier matches members who fit both.
- Leaving Member status empty means any status.
- Status, business tag and tier filters apply to member businesses, so they matter when the audience includes members.
Use it in an email
When you write an email in Comms, choose your segment under Segment. The recipient count updates immediately.
Good to know
- Segments are live. A segment for Gold members always reflects who is Gold today.
- Only contacts with an email address who have not unsubscribed are counted, and each address is counted once.
- Deleting a segment (Delete, then Delete segment) does not touch your members.
- A few worth having ready: all active members, new members, and each tier you offer perks to.
